Currently I am the director for Professional Development for Fairport Schools. Approximately 1600 staff members and 7,200 students... I would consider myself an informed beginner with the many advances that are out
there... But ... we have recently launched a full on line course and
portfolio system for our professional development.

We team with BOCES and other partners to help move folks past their current practice to explore others. We are working to build capacity and leadership for teaching and training that makes use of technology... rather than the standard and "how to" training.

We have been successful with on line and CD based tutorials and assessments. Teachers are also using more on line tools for course work
and we "just last week" introduced... Professional Development on Demand
with video streamed programs or segments from a searchable library... It
is a start.. I am looking forward to being challenged and learning about
possibilities. I also hope to build my own confidence to try new things with the support and expertise of my colleagues.. BOCES, RIT and others.

I am also involved in a key leadership role with another initiative that is now out of the starting blocks.. The Rochester Regional Cyber Safety & Ethics Initiative or rrcsei.
The mission of this effort is to

Improve cyber safety, security and ethics education for K-12th grade
students, and to provide training in these topics for teachers, parents,
employers and other members of the community.
This will be achieved through a comprehensive program of ongoing research,
education and training, and evaluation.
